in the 90s, it felt as if we were on the cusp of something. as if there were going to be a breakthrough that redefined for all of us what it meant to be human. instead, it is the 00's and we know that life is the same as it ever was.
how can we achieve this expectancy again?

And while i'm confessing my media intake gluttony here's more:
PS2
God of War - what an action game should be. Animation is incredible and the gameplay control handles real smooth
Katamari Damacy - mindless fun. The goal of this game is to roll up miscellaneous objects into a giant ball. The sequel is coming out early next month -- time to reserve a copy
Elsewhere
--- this crazy dancer is worth a look. Check out the video links

I've been inundated by a spate of books lately:
Diamond - Matthew Hart: well crafted non-fiction about the history and trade of diamonds
Winning - Jack Welch: Feels somewhat hodge-podgish at times, but has some strong practical business advice. Don't pay full price for this one.
Blink - Malcolm Gladwell: excellent treatise on snap decisions we make.
The Tipping Point - Malcolm Gladwell: pretty good exploration of social epidemics like crime, fashion trends, etc. Not as convincing as Blink however since his evidence seems rather anecdotal.
Freakonomics - Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner: interesting, but slightly schizophrenic approach to everyday economics. Interesting topics include: real estate agent motivations; do sumo wrestlers cheat?; if crack dealers make so much money, why do they live with their moms?; is there discrimination on The Weakest Link?; is the sudden dip in crime a result of abortions dating from Roe vs Wade?.
for a good laugh, log in to amazon.com and read the passage in Freakonomics about Sudhir Venkatesh and his encounter with an inner city Chicago gang.
He was sent to the poorest of ghettos in Chicago to survey the impoverished. The first question on his questionnaire:
1. How does it feel to be black and poor?
a. Very Bad
b. Bad
c. Neither bad nor good
d. Somewhat good
e. Very good
Hijinx ensue.

IDEA OF THE NIGHT:
ok i have an idea for a prank a la candid camera:
1) obtain a wheelchair.
2) head to the nearest retail location, preferrably one with a lot of traffic.
3) scope out a handicapped bathroom stall "in use"
4) sitting in the wheelchair, proceed to bang on the door of the stall yelling "why are u in there?!? are u handicapped? I really gotta go bad!!"
5) hijinx ensue, make sure you capture everything on tape.
